Anglesey Council

An indepedent councillor has been selected as Anglesey Council's new chair for the coming year.

Cllr Dafydd Rhys Thomas has represented Ynys Gybi since he was first elected in May 2013.

Cllr Thomas, who lives in Trearddur, is retired after spending many years working at the former nuclear power station at Wylfa.

Following his successful nomination at the council's annual meeting on Tuesday, he said: "Being elected as chair of the county council is a great honour and I would like to thank my fellow councillors for putting their faith in me."

"I will work to the best of my ability to be a good ambassador on behalf of the county council, our island and its residents. I'm really looking forward to my year in office and will be fulfilling my civic duties with great pride."

Cllr Thomas, who succeeds Non Dafydd in the role, will be deputised as vice-chair by Cllr Jackie Lewis, who represents the Talybolion ward as a Plaid Cymru member.

He is married with two children and his hobbies include biking and walking, attending spinning classes at the gym, travelling and volunteering with a number of organisations.
