A Bangor man who assaulted his ex-partner has been jailed for a year.

Carl Thomas (44) of Maesgeirchen pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behaviour after turning up at her home drunk.

Llandudno magistrates heard the relationship had ended after Thomas was jailed for a previous assault against the victim.

When he turned up at her home, Thomas refused to leave and came towards her with a raised fist before he was eventually pushed out.

He tried to control her by searching through her personal belongings and calling her place of work demanding to know where she was.

The court also imposed a six-year restraining order to protect his victim.

Detective Sergeant Geraint Jones of North Wales Police said: "Thomas’s repeated actions to control and intimidate his ex-partner were frightening for her and her family."

"I commend her courage for coming forward and seeking support despite such a distressing experience. I hope Thomas’s sentence gives her some reassurance."

"I urge anyone who is experiencing domestic abuse to seek support. We will listen to you and fully investigate any report made to us."
