Police have renewed their appeal to find the mother of a newborn baby whose body was found on the shoreline in Bangor.

A post-mortem examination was carried out on Wednesday after the body was discovered by a member of the public near Siliwen Road on Sunday afternoon.

North Wales Police say their immediate concerns is for the mother's health and wellbeing - they are working closely with other authorites to establish the circumstances "at a fast pace".

In a new direct appeal to the mother, Superintendent Llinos Davies said: "My message to her is that you do not have to face this alone. Please get in touch and seek the support you may need. There are people ready to help you."

She added: "I understand that this is a shocking incident for the community and I am grateful for the support and assistance that we have received so far."

"I continue to urge anybody with information regarding a woman or girl you think may have been pregnant or whose behaviour has been unusual or out of character over the past few months to please contact us."

"All names received will be treated with the utmost discretion and can be eliminated as the mother without delay."

Police said an increased presence in the Bangor area would continue over the coming days as part of their investigation and cordons remain in place to allow officers to carry out their duties.

On Tuesday, Fiona Giraud, the direct of midwifery and women's services at the Betsi Cadwaladr health board, said: "We have real concerns for the health of the mother."

"We recognise that she is likely to be extremely vulnerable. She may be fearful of seeking the support she needs through fear of identifying herself."
