The Storiel museum and art gallery in Bangor is preparing to celebrate its tenth anniversary.

The former Bishop's Palace, which dates back to the 16th century, was reopened to the public in 2016 following a £2.6 million transformation.

Since then, the centre has welcomed over 370,000 visitors and has played host to a range of artwork openings, live performances and creative workshops.

To mark its tenth birthday, a special day of activities will be held on Saturday 4th July including the official opening to two new exhibitions - Lloriog / Gwallus by Welsh artist Erin Hughes and the work of textile artist Toria Cameron, with an introduction from Helen Rees Leahy.

There'll also be a fossil slate workshop with Hannah Coates-Shea, a 'Zines' workshop with Elin Angharad, football skills & games with Byw'n Iach, fun activities with Gisda and guided tours of Storiel's collections.

Cllr Medwyn Hughes, cabinet member for the community at Cyngor Gwynedd, said: "We are very proud of Storiel – it is an important venue for the residents of Bangor and the whole county which celebrates the history and culture of Gwynedd."

"It is an important platform for Welsh artists and makers and for people of all ages to take part in activities that foster their creativity."

"The strong partnership between Cyngor Gwynedd and Bangor University has enabled Storiel to continue to develop and discover new ways of bringing people together to enjoy stories and art on their doorstep."

As part of the celebrations, local people are being invited to share their memories and experiences of visiting Storiel by sending a short portrait video clip that will be featured at the centre in the months to come.

Gwenan Hine, university secretary at Bangor University added: "We are very proud of our partnership which has existed for over a decade now with Cyngor Gwynedd to preserve the Storiel and Bangor University collections."

"The collaboration ensures the best possible standard of care for the collections as well as access to them for our communities and students."

The tenth anniversary celebrations take place on Saturday 4th July from 10am-4pm - entry is free along with activities, although you must book in advance for the workshops via the Storiel website.
