A Bethesda man who deliberately drove his car into another man has been detained in a young offenders' institute.
Caernarfon Crown Court heard the victim was left lying unconscious after he was struck by a white Audi A3 driven by Thomas Baker following a fight outside a café in August.
The 19 year-old pleaded guilty to all charges including assault by beating, wounding with intent and dangerous driving while disqualified.
The court heard Baker had been involved in a physical altercation with the victim, his friend and another man.
CCTV footage showed the car turning round and accelerating towards the 37 year-old, mounting the kerb and striking him from behind.
According to eyewitnesses, the force of impact threw the victim up in the air, before he was taken to hospital with significant head wounds and other injuries.
Baker, who fled the scene in the Audi A3, was arrested the following day and went onto plead guilty to all charges at Mold Crown Court last month.
On Wednesday, he was sentenced to three years and four months at a young offenders institution.
Detective Constable Gwion Jones from North Wales Police said: "This was an appalling incident that occurred in broad daylight on a High Street busy with residents, tourists and children enjoying their summer holidays."
"Baker demonstrated a shocking disregard for the safety and wellbeing of both the victim and the wider public."
"We would like to thank everyone who came forward with information and video footage that assisted our investigation."
"Officers were able to locate, detain, and arrest Baker quickly – with multiple charges brought against him for his offending. We hope the community of Bethesda finds reassurance in the prompt and decisive policing response."
"We also welcome the custodial sentence handed down by the judge, which sends a clear message that such behaviour will not be tolerated in our communities."
