Caernarfon: crackdown on anti-social drivers

Police say a number of arrests have been made in a crackdown on anti-social driving in the Caernarfon area.

Officers carried out two operations in the past month following concerns from the local communtiy about young people's behaviour behind the wheel and speeding vehicles.

Speed checks carried out on Saturday night caught one vehicle driving at 48mph in a 20mph zone on South Road.

Police said arrests have been made for driving under the influence of drink and drugs, along with traffic offence reports for careless driving, no insurance and using mobile phones.

Multiple vehicles were checked to ensure if they were roadworthy while Section 59 warnings were given for anti-social driving.

A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: "Following a number of concerns raised by the Caernarfon community regarding young person’s driving anti socially aswell as vehicles exceeding the speed limit in bult up areas in the town, an operation was set up on Saturday 27th September and Saturday 18th October by officers from the Gwynedd North Team with the assistance of the roads policing unit."

"We appreciate the concerns raised by members of the public and want to assure you that we are taking the matter seriously."

They added: "We want to reassure the Caernarfon community that officers will be focusing on the concerns you have raised on a 24-7 basis, and future operations will be planned."
