GCSE students from Anglesey and Gwynedd have been congratulated after receiving their results on Thursday.

Across Wales, grades were largely stable amid the gradual introduction of new qualificatons - there was a slight increase in top A or A* grades (19.6%) although the overall pass rate fell slightly (62.3%)

Anglesey Council said students were encouraged to explore the "wide range of opportunities" avaialble after the age of 16, inclding sixth form, further education, apprenticeships, training or employment.

Cllr Dafydd Roberts, who holds the education portfolio, said: "Reaching this point takes dedication and perseverance, and each young person should be proud of what they have achieved."

"These results represent more than grades alone. They reflect the effort, resilience and commitment shown over many years. As learners take their next steps, whether in education, training or employment, I wish them every success and happiness in the future."

Cllr Dewi Jones, Cyngor Gwynedd's cabinet member for education, said: "We are very proud of the success of our pupils here in Gwynedd, and this year's results are very encouraging."

"Every pupil deserves praise for their efforts and hard work, and we are committed to seeing all our young people succeed and thrive. I would also like to thank the teachers and school staff for their hard work and dedication throughout the year."

Education Minister Anna Brychan said: "Whatever your results there are many opportunities available for you, whether you are heading into further education, apprenticeships or employment."

"This is an exciting time to think about your next steps, with support available through your school, Working Wales and Careers Wales."

She added: "You have worked hard for the results you have achieved, and I hope you enjoy celebrating your achievements with family and friends. I wish you Pob Lwc in what you choose to do next.”
