A man is being questioned following the death of an elderly woman who was hit by a Tesco delivery van in Bangor.

Garth Hill was closed following the collision at just after midday on Monday lunchtime.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services and her next of kin have been informed, along with the local coroner.

A 33 year-old man, who was driving the van, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in custody.

Forensic experts examined the scene of the collision for several hours before the road was reopened.

The Welsh Air Ambulance also attended the scene - and North Wales Police are appealing for witnesses or footage of the incident to come forward.

Sgt Evans from the Roads Crime Unit said: "Our thoughts remain with the woman’s family and friends at this difficult time."

"We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the pedestrian or the vehicle in the moments leading up to the incident to contact us as soon as possible."

Anyone with information should contact North Wales Police on 101 or the website, quoting reference no. C151796.
