More than £9.2 million will be spent on improving local transport links across Anglesey and Gwynedd.

The Welsh Government says grants from the Regional Transport Fund will help deliver modern and sustainable systems to help people get around more easily.

Among the key projects, £1.5 million will be spent on developing an active walking and cycling route for Benllech - with Anglesey Council currently running a public consultation on revised plans.

Elsewhere, rural bus services in Gwynedd such as Sherpa'r Wyddfa will receieve just over £1 million.

Across Wales, nearly £116 million has been allocated to local authorities - with around half of the funding being spent on 'active travel' schemes'.

Funding will also be spent on better access to public transport, road safety and improving EV charging points.

The regional transport plan for North Wales, which will run for the next five years, is being overseen by a dedicated corporate joint committee (CJC).

Transport Secretary, Ken Skates, said: "Delivering better transport and connecting communities for all is at the heart of this £115 million investment."

"We want to make it easier for people to travel to work, school, healthcare and to see friends and family, while also building a more modern, sustainable and integrated transport system across Wales for future generations."

"Our commitment to a one team approach draws on the regional knowledge and trust we have placed in our partners; the CJCs, Local Authorities, Transport for Wales, and wider stakeholders, to ensure this money delivers the greatest benefits."

"These improvements will make real differences to everyday journeys - whether that's safer routes, better paths for walking, wheeling and cycling, or more reliable multimodal connections."
