A lorry driver has been given a temporary ban after he was caught drink driving on the A55 across Anglesey.

Police said they received a number of 999 calls from the public about an HGV weaving across the dual carriageway while travelling eastbound from Holyhead last Friday evening.

The 51 year-old from King's Lynn, Norfolk, was stopped near the Britannia Bridge at around 8pm.

He was arrested after failing a roadside breath test and taken into custody where a further breath sample was taken.

The driver provided a reading of 123mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood - the legal limit is 35mg - and he was charged with drink driving.

The following day, Mold Magistrates Court gave him an interim disqualification and conditional bail until he appears before magistrates in Caernarfon on Tuesday 11th November.

PC Kieran Davies from the roads crime unit at North Wales Police thanked the public for calling officers.

He added: "Drink driving risks the lives of all road users – but to be driving an HGV whilst over three times the legal limit is incomprehensible."
