Man dies in A499 crash near Pwllheli

A 20 year-old man has died following a two-vehicle crash on the outskirts of Pwllheli.

Three people are in hospital with serious injuries following the collision involving a black Ford Fiesta and a red Audi A3 near Y Ffôr at around 10.10pm on Saturday night.

North Wales Police confirmed the driver of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene "despite the best efforts" of emergency services.

His next of kin have been informed and the coroner for North West Wales is expected to open an inquest in due course.

Two people were airlifted to the Royal Stoke University Hospital and a third was taken by ambulance.for futher treatment.

The Welsh Ambulance Service said four ambulances and one rapid response unit was sent to the scene, along with the Welsh Air Ambulance and a search and rescue helicopter from Caernarfon.

The road remained closed overnight while an investigation into the crash began, but it has since reopened.

Sergeant Duncan Logan from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "I offer my deepest condolences to the family at this incredibly difficult time."

"I'd like to personally thank all those who stopped to assist at the scene and support emergency services."

"I am urging anybody who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have been travelling or walking in the vicinity and has mobile or dash cam footage, to come forward as soon as possible."

Earlier, Dwyfor Meirionydd MP, Liz Savile Roberts said she was "deeply saddened to hear of the tragic death of a young man in a road accident near Y Ffôr, Pwllheli.

The Plaid Cymru MP added: "My heart goes out to his family and his friends. I am also thinking of those who were injured in this incident. I also thank the emergency services for their response in challenging circumstances."
