Two young paddleboarders were found by coastguards after they went missing near Aberdaron.

The teenagers who were on one paddleboard were around 90 minutes overdue when the alarm was raised at around 5.20pm on Monday evening.

The RNLI at Abersoch launched its inshore lifeboat just over ten minutes later, going towards Ynys Gwlan (Gull Island), where the pair were last seen heading.

But en route, the lifeboat was stood down as the teenagers were found safe and well on the beach by the local mobile coastguard team from Aberdaron.

Martin Turtle, lifeboat operations manager at RNLI Abersoch, said: "It was the right thing to do in raising the alarm with the Coastguard."

"You should always tell someone where you are going and when you expect to back and ensure that you have a means of calling for help with you that can easily be reached should you get into difficulty. Thankfully the two teenagers were quickly located on the beach."
