A coroner has ruled the death of an RAF instructor in a paragliding crash was accidental.

An inquest heard Flt Lt. Geoffrey Corser fell into the Dinowrig quarry near Llanberis after losing control and hitting a rock face.

The 46 year-old died, who lived in Beaumaris, from serious head injuries.

Caernarfon Coroner's Court heard Mr Courser, originally from Nottingham, was off duty when he went paragliding with a friend on 23rd August 2025.

His friend set off from Elidir Fawr and completed a four-minute flight but the flight lieutenant decided to set off from another part of the mountain.

According to an eyewitness who had been climbing in the area, Lt. Corser did not appear to be fully under control - he was spotted swaying from side to side and travelling quickly.

Seconds later, a 'slap' and a 'bang' was heard as he collided with the rock face and fell into the quarry.

A report from the British Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association found that although Lt. Corser was experienced and familiar with the area, it was impossible to recover from any mistake.

Sarah Riley, assistant coroner for North West Wales, returned a verdict of accidental death.

Following his death, a spokesperson for RAF Valley, where Flt Lt. Corser was based, said: "Geoff died doing something he was passionate about in life – flying."

"Geoff was an esteemed flying instructor at RAF Valley, highly respected by both his colleagues and the students he taught."

Lt. Corser, who was also known as ''Wolf'', served in the South African Air Force as a member of the Flying Cheetahs squadron before moving to the UK to join the RAF.
