Two pilots involved in a training jet crash near RAF Valley are now recovering at home.

The pair suffered minor injuries after they ejected from a Hawk T2 aircraft which came down seconds later in the Peniscarnog area last Wednesday afternoon (23rd September).

Both pilots were taken by air ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, where the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine is based.

The Royal AIr Force says an investigation into the crash is continuing.

In a statement on Thursday, a spokesperson for RAF Valley said the two pilots "have now returned home and are recuperating".

They added: "They would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to the emergency services, and all those who supported them in the immediate aftermath of the incident."

"They are also deeply grateful for the kindness, encouragement and well wishes received from people across the world, and in particular, their RAF colleagues and the people of Ynys Môn."

"The support shown over the past week has meant a great deal to the pilots and their families as they begin their recovery at home."

"We kindly ask you to respect the privacy of those involved as they recover. The investigation continues."

Last week, the RAF said both pilots were expected to make a full recovery and their families are being supported.

All flying operations involving Hawk T1 and Hawk T2 fighter jets were paused temporarily as a precuation following the crash.

Train services between Holyhead and Bangor were also disrupted for a time, due to a reported obsruction on the track.
