Thousands of GCSE students across Anglesey and Gwynedd have been receiving their results.
Across Wales, top grades are up slightly on last year - although the number of entries is down - ahead of major changes to qualifications.
From September, new GCSEs will be phased in to fit in with the Curriculum for Wales.
Anglesey Council congratulated "all learners on their achievements" in this year's GCSEs and other Level 1 and 2 qualifications.
Cllr Dafydd Roberts, who holds the education portfolio, said: "Congratulations to all the young people on Anglesey receiving their results today. This is a fantastic milestone, and whether you are continuing your education or beginning your career, I wish you the very best for this next exciting chapter."
"A heartfelt thank you also goes to our dedicated school staff, along with the parents and families, for the encouragement and guidance they have given throughout the journey."
The council said it encouraged learners to take full advantage of advice and guidance available to them on which path they take.
Aaron C Evans, director of education, skills and young people, added: "I'd like to send my congratulations to everyone celebrating their results today, and a sincere thanks to their families for the support they have given along the way."
"I hope your achievements open the doors you've been working towards – whether that's continuing at school, moving on to college, starting an apprenticeship, or entering employment."
"For anyone who feels uncertain about their next steps, there is plenty of advice available through schools and Careers Wales. Best wishes to you all for the future."
"A huge thank you to our schools, teachers, education staff and other partners from the wider community for their commitment, hard work and guidance in helping our learners reach this important stage in their lives."
Cyngor Gwynedd also congratulted local students on their success in this year's exams.
Cllr Dewi Jones, cabinet member for education, said: "This year's results are very encouraging, and every pupil deserves great praise for their efforts. We are committed to seeing all our young people succeed and thrive."
"I would also like to sincerely thank the teachers and school staff for their hard work and dedication throughout the year."
Gwern ap Rhisiart, Cyngor Gwynedd's head of education, added: "This year's GCSE results are commendable and reflect the dedication and perseverance of our young people. Huge congratulations to them all."
"The results highlight the core values at the heart of our education system here in Gwynedd – inclusion, wellbeing, equal opportunity, and supporting every pupil to achieve their potential as individuals."
