A student has won the chance to attend an international conference for young scientists thanks to a memorial scholarship.
The Tomos Wyn Morgan Scholarship, which is marking its tenth anniversary, offers one local sixth-form student a place at the annual London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF).
More than 500 young scientists from over 70 countries attend the annual event, held over a fortnight at Imperial College.
This year's winner of the £2,000 prize was Dylan Thorpe, who attends Ysgol David Hughes in Menai Bridge.
He said: "I am thrilled to receive this amazing opportunity and am very excited to take part in the 66th LIYSF. I am very grateful to the Morgan family for this unique experience."
The scholarship is made possible by the family of Tomos Wyn Morgan, who died suddenly at the age of 30 in 2014.
The former Ysgol Gyfun Llangefni pupil had himself attended the forum - and his family chose to commenorate his life by offrering the same experience to others.
Tomos’ parents said: "Tomos was a gifted young man and fortunate enough to be chosen to attend the London International Youth Science Forum when he was in school. It was a great inspiration to him and broadened his horizons."
"He was stimulated by the excellence of the lectures and met young people from other walks of life who remained friends until his death."
"Tomos’ intention was to come back to Wales to set up an enterprise that would benefit local people. He would be pleased to think that his legacy is giving more young people from Anglesey, like Dylan, the same rewarding opportunity that he had whilst attending the science forum in London."
Last year's scholarship winner, Mili-Anne Archer from Ysgol Uwchradd Bodedern, said attending the forum was "an amazing experience".
"I was able to enjoy lectures and demonstrations from leading scientists and visit world class laboratories and universities. It was also a great chance to meet new people, interested in science, from all over the world."
The Morgan family continue to sponsor the scholarship, which is awarded every year by Anglesey Council, after pupil submissions are assessed by an independent expert.
Cllr Dafydd Roberts, who holds the education portfolio, added: "This scholarship provides a truly transformative experience for some of our county’s brightest students. It enables them to connect with peers from across the globe and deepen their passion for science."
"We are incredibly grateful to the Morgan family. Their continued support ensures that Tomos’ legacy lives on - helping to inspire and nurture the next generation of scientists from Anglesey."
