Three youths are being questioned after a teenager was attacked in Bangor.

Police say the teenager was taken to hospital with serious injuries after emergency services were called to Llandegai Road at just after 8.30pm on Tuesday evening.

Three young people were arrested in connection with the incident and remain in custody.

Detectives say they're not looking for anyone else - but patrols are being stepped up in the Hirael, Maesgeirchen and High Street areas of the city.

They're also urging the public to avoid speculation about the alleged assault and to avoid sharing social media footage.

Jamie Owens, district inspector for Gwynedd North, said: "I would like to thank members of the community who contacted the police last night and for their support whilst emergency services were in attendance."

"Investigations into the assault are ongoing, and I would reassure residents that there is no ongoing risk to the wider public."

"I recognise the impact that incidents like this can have on young people, their families and the wider community, and I have therefore directed increased patrols in the area over the coming days."

"It is likely therefore that communities will see an increased presence in the areas of Hirael, Maesgeirchen and Bangor High Street for reassurance purposes."

"I am also aware that there is video footage of this incident circulating on social media, and I am urging the public to avoid sharing the footage online, or speculating as to the nature of the incident, as this can hinder the investigation and cause unnecessary distress to the persons involved."

"I would appeal for anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact the police via our website, by calling 101, speaking directly to a local officer or by contacting Crimestoppers anonymously."

Anyone with information should contact North Wales Police on 101 or the live web chat, quoting reference no. C102685. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
