Two people have died after a light aircraft crashed near Trawsfynydd.

The plane was discovered in a remote location near the village on Friday afternoon with both occupants on board pronounced dead at the scene.

North Wales Police said air and ground searches were carried out after being informed at just after midday that the aircraft, which was travelling from an airfield in England, had not arrived at Caernarfon Airport as scheduled.

The Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) has deployed a team of investigators after being made aware of the incident.

Chief Superintendent Owain Llewellyn of North Wales Police said: "Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those involved in this tragic incident."

"We will support the AAIB with their investigation to ensure the circumstances leading to this incident are fully understood."

"This has been a challenging search operation and I am grateful to all of the agencies involved for their professionalism and dedication."

There are no further details at the moment.
