A youth has been questioned following an alleged racial slur during a football match in Llangefni.
North Wales Police say a spectator allegedly shouted at one of the players during last Friday's Anglesey derby between Llangefni Town and Trearddur Bay in the Ardal North West league.
One person arrested in connection has since been released on conditional bail.
A Llangefni Town spokesperson said on Friday night that the club was "deeply saddened and appalled" by the incident at Cae Bob Parry, which is being treated as hate related by police.
They added: "Racism and discrimination of any kind have absolutely no place in our club, football, or in our community. We offer our sincere apologies to the player affected and to Trearddur Bay Football Club for this unacceptable behaviour."
"Llangefni Town FC does not tolerate racism in any form. We are already working to identify the individual involved and will take the strongest possible action once they are identified."
We urge anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information to come forward and contact the club directly and in confidence."
"Llangefni Town FC stands firmly for respect, equality, and inclusion—both on and off the pitch."
District Inspector Wayne Francis of North Wales Police said: "We will not tolerate racism in any form anywhere in our communities - in or out of sport."
"Officers took swift action following the report of the incident to identify those involved. I would thank both football clubs for their ongoing assistance."
"We are supportive of initiatives such as the Welsh Football Association's ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ scheme and will continue to work closely with partners and community members to ensure incidents of this nature are taken seriously and dealt with robustly."
Treaddur Bay won the match 5-1.
