MônFM has teamed up with Mencap Môn to give members the chance to get behind the mic, learn practical radio skills, and share their voices on air.
Working with Kev Bach and MônFM producer Lennon Williams, Mencap Môn members are learning new skills in interviewing and broadcasting news, discussing all relevant issues that affect people with a learning disability and autism on Ynys Môn.
“Thanks to MônFM we have an opportunity to record and air a monthly session that enables some of our members to access a new and exciting new experience.
Kev Bach (MônFM & Canolfan Ganhwfa) will offer our members training and recording techniques of radio broadcasting, teaching them new skills in interviewing and understanding how a radio station works.
This new collaboration will help foster stronger links in the Llangefni community, and offer our members the opportunity to develop new skills with confidence and hopefully build up listeners and get their voices heard.
Having this new route is very exciting and offers Mencap Môn the opportunity to break down some perceptions and barriers around the word disability, highlighting individuals’ skills, experience and aspirations to feel included and listened to.”
— Martin Gallagher, Mencap Môn
Tomos Dobson, Chairman of MônFM, added:
"This partnership with Mencap Môn is a great example of how local radio can do more than just broadcast — it can create opportunities. It’s been fantastic to see members gaining confidence, learning how radio works, and using the platform to share their own stories and ideas. Community radio is about representing the people we serve, and projects like this help make that real. We’re really proud to support it and excited to see where it leads."
The first Mencap Môn takeover will be on air Tuesday the 29th of July at 9:15am. You can listen on FM, the MônFM app, monfm.co.uk, or by asking your Alexa to 'Play MônFM'.
