Caernarfon Town face a uphill struggle in the UEFA Conference League following their 5-0 defeat to Estonian giants FCI Levadia Tallinn.

New signing Ben Nash was sent off on his debut as the Cofis returned to the newly refurbished Oval ground in front of a sell-out crowd on Thursday evening.

Caernarfon, playing their first European game in their hometown, began brightly as Zack Clarke went narrowly close to taking the lead.

But Levadia, who are currently top of the Estonian league, went ahead with a Rasmus Peetson header after 15 minutes, before further punishing the hosts twice before the break via Joao Pedro and a close range effort from Mark Roosnupp.

The visitors picked up where they left off when Mikhel Ainsalu added their fourth shortly after the break, before Nash saw red for a late challenge on Bubacarr Tambedou.

Maksimilian Skvortsov's penalty blazed over the bar but Cofis keeper Connor Roberts was unable to prevent sub Enock Otoo from completing an unwelcome homecoming rout on 78 minutes.

Caernarfon manager Richard Davies said he was still proud of his players, but admitted to the FAW website: "It’s one of those where we’ve killed ourselves tonight."

"They [FCI Levadia] are a good side, they’re clinical, but it’s two goals in the first half from set-pieces where we’ve got to be better."

"The third one, we don’t do enough and against better sides you get punished. We come out second half and within two minutes we’re four down and just kills all the momentum. The sending off was the final straw and then the last one was always going to happen."

Caernarfon travel to the Estonian capital of Tallinn for the return leg next Thursday evening (5.30pm ko BST)
