An indpendent candidate has taken a former Plaid Cymru seat on Cyngor Gwynedd following a by-election.

Rhys Parry won the vacant seat in the Llanrug ward with a 132-vote majority over his nearest rival, Plaid candidate Dewi Rhys Evans, in Thursday's poll.

Mr Parry is also a member of Llanrug Community Council.

The by-election was triggered by former councillor Beca Brown's election to the Senedd as a Plaid MS for the new Gwynedd Maldwyn constituency in May.

The full result of the Llanrug by-election was as follows:

  • Rhys Parry (Independent): 394
  • Dewi Rhys Evans (Plaid Cymru): 262
  • Terry Temple (Reform UK Wales): 17
  • Stacie Marie Ingram (Welsh Conservatives): 6
  • Sue Macfarlane (Welsh Green Party): 4
  • Linda Park (Welsh Liberal Democrats): 3

A by-election will be held on Anglesey Council on Thursday 30th July for the vacant Bro'r Llynnoedd seat.
