'Y Gân' has won the 2026 Cân i Gymru song contest at the Anglesey Showground in Mona.
Composers Geth Tomos and Henry Priestman and lyricist Emlyn Gomer clinched the £5,000 following a public vote by S4C viewers during Saturday night's show.
Two of the eight songs performed during the show were written and composed by the trio with singer Sara Owen performing the winning entry.
Emlyn lost 3 friends very suddenly and that was at the back of his mind when writing the lyrics. The line ‘Ond er bod bywyd wedi dwyn dy lais’ (‘But even though life has stolen your voice') moved the song onwards.
Geth said: "Thank you very much to you all. As a musician from Anglesey, this means the world to me. Thank you to these two, to the whole family and to Sara for singing it so brilliantly."
Emlyn added that Sara’s performance was “incredible”.

Runner-up was 'Y Gwanwyn Bach' (The Little Spring) by Rhydian Meilir and Myrddin ap Dafydd, who win £3,000 while the third prize of £2,000 went to Rhodri Lloyd Evans for 'Storm Heno' (Storm Tonight).
Candelas frontman Osian Huw Williams, himself a former co-winner of the competition, chaired this year’s panel of judges, which included Barry 'Archie' Jones from Celt, singer songwriter Mali Hâf, broadcaster Mirain Iwerydd, and Gwilym lead singer Ifan Pritchard.
This was the first time the contest was held on Anglesey in over a decade.
