Caernarfon's library will be moved to a temporary location as it prepares for a £1 million refurbishment.
The current building on Pavilion Hill will see new and modernised facilities, including a glass front foyer, an outdoor area and a purpose-built children's area, along with a community centre facility and more self-service machines.
To allow work to get underway, the library will move to Oriel Pendeitsh - opposite the castle - from mid-November onwards.
Cyngor Gwynedd says most of the library's services will be available at the temporary site, although some provision will be more limited because of the reduced space.
The project is expected to be completed by early 2028 - and the new facilities are designed to cut carbon emissions and operating costs.
Cllr Medwyn Hughes, cabinet member for the community, said: "This is a significant investment in the future of Caernarfon Library which will provide a modern and accessible facility for the community for years to come."
"I would like to thank users for their patience during this time. We look forward to seeing the benefits this development will bring to the community."
The library will be closed from Monday 9th to Saturday 14th November to allow services to be moved from Pavilion Hill to Oriel Pendetish, before reopening on Monday 16th November.
A Cyngor Gwynedd spokesperson said: "The move marks an exciting time for the library as work on the project begins which will upgrade the existing building to be a modern, accessible and sustainable facility for the community into the future."
They added: "The Gwynedd Libraries Service will be holding an information session in the coming weeks at Oriel Pendeitsh to share more details about the developments and give residents the opportunity to ask questions about the plans."
