Cyngor Gwynedd is backing an international campaign in support of child sex abuse survivors.

The Not My Shame movement aims to encourage individuals, communities and organisations to stand in solidarity with those who have experienced the trauma.

It was founded five years ago by mental health campaigner and survivor Emma Jayne Taylor.

She said:"People across Wales, the UK and the world will show their support in many ways – including wearing #NotMyShame t-shirts or white ribbons, lighting up public buildings and holding a moment of silence."

As part of the campaign day - Friday 1st May - the 'Not My Shame' flag was flown outside the council's headquarters in Caernarfon.

Dylan Owen, Cyngor Gwynedd's social services director, added: "Child sexual abuse robs many people of their childhoods and can affect survivors, as well as their families, for the rest of their lives."

"As a council, we are working to improve how we can support individuals, families and communities as they rebuild their lives and cope with the effects of trauma."

"We are grateful to the Not My Shame movement for raising awareness and encouraging open, compassionate conversations around this difficult but vital issue."
