A drifting yacht has been rescued after it broke down off the Llyn Peninsula.
The RNLI at Porthdinllaen was sent out at 5.40am on Monday morning after receiving a call for assistance from the 30ft vessel, which was approximately 30 miles west of the Gwynedd coast.
One person was on board and suffering from fatigue with the yacht - a ketch type craft - drifting near the busy international shipping lanes in the Irish Sea, after suffering mechanical failure and unable to deploy its sails.
When the lifeboat finally reached the scene, it was found that yacht had drifted further towards Ireland.
After assessing the situation, thr RNLI's Shannon Class lifeboat from Wicklow was sent out to tow the stricken yacht to the Irish coast, arriving at around 12.15pm.
The Porthdinllaen crew was relieved of its duties after the lone sailor was transferred to the Wicklow lifeboat.
Adam Daniel, coxswain at RNLI Porthdinllaen, said: "Thanks to our colleagues at Wicklow for their assistance today, the yacht was drifting in the international shipping lanes in the Irish Sea, and it was imperative that a tow was secured to tow the craft clear of the lanes to avoid any possibility of a collision."
"Thanks to both crews, the tow was transferred and secured in a timely and safe manner."
