The Welsh Government's childcare offer for two year-olds is being introduced in Gwynedd.
From this week, all parents and carers of two year-olds in the county can apply for 12-and-a-half hours a week of funded childcare.
Cyngor Gwynedd says the funded hours will be available from 2nd November with approved childcare providers.
Deputy leader Menna Trenholme, who is also the cabinet member for children and families, said: "This is a significant step forward for families across the county and supports the vision set out in the council plan (2023-2028) of creating a county where people can thrive."
"By investing in our youngest residents, we are helping to ensure that children have access to high-quality early years experiences that support their development, well-being and future learning."
"The offer will also provide support for parents and carers, helping more families overcome barriers to employment or training that can arise from childcare arrangements."
"Giving children the best possible start in life is one of the most important investments we can make in Gwynedd’s future, and this offer demonstrates our commitment to supporting children, families and communities to thrive."
According to the Deputy First Minister, the Welsh Government is "accelerating" its commitments to families.
Ministers are planning to extend support for two year-olds from 12 to 20 hours a week - before the offer is further extended to three and four-year olds, and eventually, to toddlers aged between nine months and two years.
Sioned Williams added: "This investment shows we are accelerating our commitments to the families of Wales. Childcare costs in Wales are the highest in the UK and I am determined to help families all over Wales, while also supporting children's development."
"We will continue to work closely with local authorities across Wales to roll this out everywhere."
Cyngor Gwynedd says the rollout will also support local childcare providers in coping with rising demand, while seeking to strengthen the long-term sustainability of the sector.
