Tributes have been paid to a university professor whose body was found in Eryri.
Gregor McLennan was found dead on Carnedd y Filiast on Monday, four days after he disappeared from a hostel near Bethesda, where he parked his car.
The 73 year-old sociologist was a professor emeritus and the Established Chair in Sociology at Bristol University, where he held a number of leadership roles since 1997.
Paying tribute, the university described Mr McLennan was an "internationally respected academic in the fields of social theory, postcolonial and postsecular thought".
Originally an undergraduate at Bristol, he moved to Birmingham for his PhD before working for the Open University in the 1980s.
Judith Squires, deputy vice-chancellor, added: "His intellectual generosity, rigour, and commitment to public debate left a lasting impact on students, peers, and the wider discipline."
"He will be greatly missed, and our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working with him at the University of Bristol and beyond."
In a statement, Mr McLennan's family said: "Greg died where he felt most alive and his final view was every bit as wonderful as the man himself."
"It's deeply painful knowing that he was alone on the mountain while we searched...but early on Monday evening we finally found him and there is a measure of peace in that, not only for us but for his soul."
"Dad was a passionate and inspiring man whose warmth reached many people. Our friends and loved ones dropped everything, offering help in an awful time, something we'll always be grateful for."
North Wales Police say it's believed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding Mr McLennan's death and an inquest is expected to be held in due course.
