Police investigating the death of a newborn baby girl in Bangor are appealing to walkers to come forward.

Authorities are continuing their efforts to track down the mother of the infant, whose body was found near the shoreline nearly a fortnight ago.

It's believed the newborn baby may have been left in the water for up to a few weeks, although tests are continuing.

Last week, a special phone line was set up which can only be used by the mother to seek specialist help, but so far, she has not come forward.

North Wales Police are also appealing to anyone who routinely walked in the Siliwen Road and Ashley Fields areas of Bangor between Wednesday 30th August and Sunday 27th September, when the body was discovered by a member of the public.

Superintendent Llinos Davies said: "Officers are continuing to work tirelessly to conduct local enquiries and liaise with national experts to determine what happened to the little baby girl."

"Anybody who has photos or videos taken in and around the Menai Straits shoreline in Siliwen between 30 August and 27 September are asked to upload them to the major incident public portal."

"Any image could be relevant to our investigation, even if you think it might be insignificant it will be reviewed to ascertain whether it is of value to our enquiries."

In the latest in a series of direct appeals to the mother, Superintendent Davies added: "We understand that you may be scared to come forward, but we urge you to contact us. Your welfare remains our utmost concern."

"We have created a phone number specifically for you to call for help with a specialist who can support you confidentially. Please, if you are seeing this message, call or text 07974 241223."

"When you call, you will speak directly to a trained specialist whose role is simply to listen and help. This is not a conversation you need to be afraid of. You will be treated with compassion, dignity and respect."

“If making that call feels too difficult, please consider telling somebody you trust. A friend, family member, neighbour, healthcare professional, or anyone who can help you reach out.”

Anyone with any immediate concerns should contact North Wales Police on 101, quoting Operation Melex. A special major incident page has been set up allowing anyone with information to contact officers directly

Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or the Peoples Enquiry service at BCUHB on 03000 851 234 between 10am and 4pm on weekdays.
